Base Color Challenge Day One

Happy Monday to all! As I've mentioned yesterday, today is the first day of my base color challenge, hooray :D And let me introduce the base color polish I've chosen. It is Hits Speciallita Party Rock which is a sweet neon-ish minty cream polish. There are two issues with this polish though. First, not until I did three coats of it, I've noticed that it is a 6ml bottle.. So application is going to be tough by the end of the week. And second, the brush. I'm not sure if I'm just particularly lucky or something, but all the Hits polishes I own have weird brushes. The one in the Party Rock has some bristles longer than the others, so they stick out and make application unpleasant as they leave a mess on my cuticles.

I love the color of this polish though, it is quite positive and bright. I'm not very happy with three coats to make it opaque, but I can live with that. Sorry I forgot to photograph the polish on its own; hopefully tomorrow I won't forget. 

So for today's design I chose striping tape and another Hits polish called Pink Night which is a cool redish pink with pearlescent finish. I applied three coats of my base color Party Rock and let it dry completely. Then I did random designs using the striping tape, applied a thin coat of Pink Night on top of that and carefully peeled the tape off with the tweezers while the polish was still wet. And finished with a top coat.

Overall the whole thing was not difficult to do, but it does require a lot of attention and quite a bit of time. It took me about an hour and a half to do the whole thing. Striping tape design is still new to me, so I did do a few mistakes like waiting too long before peeling the tape off and not waiting long enough for the polish to dry before applying the top coat which all resulted in a messy design. 

Oh well, I'm still learning so when I do it next time, I hope I'll do it better. The Pink Night looks way too red in my pictures; it is more on the pink side in reality.
